Ramco Systems and ePlane: Powering India’s Electric Air Taxi Revolution

Ramco Systems has partnered with The ePlane Company to manage the full lifecycle of India’s first electric air taxi fleet, marking a major milestone in urban air mobility. The collaboration will deploy Ramco’s aviation software to support ePlane’s e200X aircraft across passenger, cargo, and emergency services.

India’s dream of flying taxis is no longer science fiction. With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ramco Systems and The ePlane Company (Ubifly Technologies), the country is taking a bold leap into the future of urban transportation. This strategic partnership aims to digitally power the operations of ePlane’s flagship electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft—the e200X—across multiple use cases including air taxi, air ambulance, and cargo delivery.

✈️ The e200X: India’s First Electric Air Taxi

Developed by ePlane, a startup incubated at IIT Madras, the e200X is a compact, two-seater electric aircraft designed for short-range urban travel. With vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, it can bypass traffic congestion and reduce travel time dramatically. The aircraft is currently undergoing certification and regulatory approvals, with commercial rollout expected in the coming years.

The e200X is envisioned to operate within city limits, connecting rooftops, helipads, and designated vertiports. Its electric propulsion system ensures zero emissions, making it a sustainable alternative to ground-based transport.

🧠 Ramco Aviation Software: A Digital Backbone

Ramco Systems, a global leader in aviation software, will provide its cloud-based platform to manage the entire lifecycle of the e200X fleet. This includes:

  • Engineering and Maintenance
  • Supply Chain and Inventory
  • Safety and Compliance
  • Manufacturing and Assembly
  • Finance and Analytics

By integrating these functions into a single digital ecosystem, Ramco will help ePlane streamline operations, reduce downtime, and ensure regulatory compliance. The software will be implemented in phases, aligned with the aircraft’s journey from certification to manufacturing and commercial deployment.

🚁 Multi-Use Fleet: Taxi, Ambulance, Cargo

The partnership goes beyond passenger transport. ePlane plans to deploy the e200X for:

  • Air Ambulance Services: Rapid medical transport in congested urban areas.
  • Cargo Delivery: Efficient last-mile logistics for high-value or time-sensitive goods.
  • Urban Air Mobility (UAM): On-demand air taxi services for commuters and business travelers.

This multi-use approach maximizes the utility of each aircraft and opens new revenue streams for operators.

🌍 A Step Toward Smart Cities

Urban air mobility is a key component of smart city infrastructure. By integrating electric air taxis into public and private transport networks, cities can reduce road congestion, lower emissions, and improve connectivity. The Ramco-ePlane partnership supports this vision by providing the digital tools needed to manage complex air mobility operations.

The collaboration also aligns with India’s broader goals of promoting clean energy, digital transformation, and indigenous innovation.

🔧 Scalable and Future-Ready

As ePlane scales its operations, Ramco’s aviation software will provide the flexibility to manage hundreds of aircraft across multiple cities. The platform’s modular architecture allows for easy integration with air traffic control systems, booking platforms, and maintenance providers.

Ramco’s experience with over 90 aviation organizations—including airlines, MROs, heli-operators, and defense forces—ensures that the e200X fleet will be supported by proven technology and best practices.

🧪 Innovation at the Core

Both companies bring a strong culture of innovation to the table. ePlane’s engineering team, led by founder Prof. Satya Chakravarthy, is pioneering electric aviation in India. Ramco, meanwhile, continues to push boundaries in AI, machine learning, and predictive analytics for aviation.

Together, they aim to create a seamless, intelligent, and safe air mobility experience for passengers and operators alike.

🔮 What’s Next?

As the e200X progresses through certification, expect to see pilot programs in major Indian cities. Ramco’s software will play a critical role in ensuring operational readiness, safety, and scalability. The partnership could also inspire similar collaborations across the globe, positioning India as a leader in electric urban aviation.
